Our story

Started with one bale and a very small balcony.

Deesire began as a Saturday habit — digging through Gikomba, hauling home the pieces too good to leave behind, hanging them out to catch the light. The balcony became the studio. The studio became the shop.

A rail of things that deserved another life.

We don't buy trends. We buy the one good thing in the pile.

Deesire started with a single bale and a balcony in Nairobi. Gikomba is where it began, and it's still where a lot of the good finds come from — but we buy wherever the pieces are worth it, not just one market. Mornings sourcing, afternoons washing and steaming, evenings hanging pieces on the rail to catch the last of the light. That light is still how we photograph everything.

We buy narrow and slow. Out of a hundred pieces we'll keep six — the ones with real fabric, honest seams, a cut you can't get on the high street anymore. Then we measure them, name them, and put them up one at a time.

Nothing here is duplicated. That's the whole point, and also the only difficult part: if you love it, it will not be there next week. We'd rather that than a warehouse of the same shirt in nine sizes.

Menswear is growing — jackets, denim, knitwear — and handbags come and go depending on what we find. Follow the drop days if you want first look.

Sizing & fit

Every piece here is vintage or secondhand, one of one — so there's no single size chart that covers all of it. A "Small" from a 90s brand and a "Small" from five years ago don't fit the same. That's why every product page carries its own measurements instead of just a letter.

Read the fit note first

Each product page has a short fit note plus bust, waist and length measurements taken directly off that exact piece. That's the real size — trust it over the S/M label.

S / M is a starting point

Roughly: Small tends to suit UK 8–10, bust 78–90cm, waist 64–74cm. Medium tends to suit UK 10–14, bust 82–98cm, waist 68–86cm. Stretch, cut and era all move these around, which is exactly why the per-piece note matters more.

Delivery & pickup

We move pieces around Nairobi through matatu-stage pickup points ("mtaani") and by rider for doorstep drops. Pickup from our CBD base is always free.
